Clemens Becomes the Starter

Quarterback Chad Pennington has been the starting quarterback for the Jets for years. However, because of his inability to get the ball down the field, head coach Eric Mangini has named Kellen Clemens the starting quarterback going into week 9 of the 2007 NFL season.

Clemens had his ups and downs during his first season as a starter, but seemed to stay cool late in the game when they still had a chance to win. “He always had that confidence about him,” receiver Jerricho Cotchery said. “It all comes from that confidence. Everyone calls it swagger. All those drives, they start there — confidence, swagger, whatever you want to call it.” (1)
