|Maroney Ready to Step Up|
The New England Patriots cut Corey Dillon in the off season. Laurence Maroney, last year's first round draft pick, will be the featured running back in 2007. The former Minnesota star, Maroney, looks to take full advantage of this opportunity as he aims to become an elite running back in only his second year.
Dillon and Maroney had similar running styles. Dillon, who was no longer the featured back, asked to be released. Now the Patriots have a one-two punch with different style running backs. Maroney will pound out the tough yards while Kevin Faulk will spell him with an occasional draw play and will be the third down running back.
Laurence Maroney rushed for 745 yards, caught 22 passes, and scored seven TD’s during his rookie season when he was not a starter. His work load should increase substantially as he should receive over 300 carries and should easily top the 1000 yard mark in 2007. The Patriots will be counting on a big year for Maroney just as we are.
