Green Bay Packers 2008 NFL Draft Grade
The Green Bay Packers came into the draft in a unique position of not really needing a ton of holes filled. They went in a direction of adding depth and positional competition. Starting on offense they went with Jordy Nelson, Jermichael Finley and a pair of quarterbacks in Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn. Jordy Nelson isn't a very scary prospect; he doesn't blow you away with measurements, but this first team all-American caught 122 passes at Kansas State last year.

Finley, a tight end from Texas, has ridiculous athletic ability and should fit well in the west coast offense. He'll be able to stretch the middle of the field for the stable of young gunslingers. Brian Brohm was to me the best signal caller in the draft. It is too early to call a steal, but I expect him to take Aaron Rodgers' job this year or next. Matt Flynn, on the other hand, had to wait his turn at LSU and led them straight to a national championship. So the success, determination and drive is there to push the two aforementioned QBs ahead of him on the depth chart. The one thing that Green Bay really needed to do this year was add a defensive back; they did it in round two with Patrick Lee of Auburn. He should be groomed well under incumbents Harris and Woodson. Jeremy Thompson from Wake Forest adds big school potential and depth to a good defensive line. He should fit the rotation nicely.

The sleeper pick for the Packers is Breno Giacomini from Louisville. He is a player with great drive and competitive fuel and will probably land on the practice squad. He could be turned into a goal line tight end or a project offensive tackle. He is a player with great upside.
