Chicago Bears 2008 NFL Draft Grade
This is an even balanced draft for the Chicago Bears. They went offense for three picks and then returned the favor to the defense for the next three. Chris Williams fills a need of youth on the offensive line; given his athleticism, he should be a nice fit at left tackle. He should fill out quite a bit and become a fixture in Hawaii during his career.

Matt Forte and Earl Bennett were the next two picks here, and to be honest neither keeps me up at night. They were excellent producers in college but they won't be any more than role players in the NFL. Think of Forte to be a situational back to spell Benson at times and give the Bears a legit backup. Bennett is a utility receiver who produced big in college but I didn't see that wow factor. He should get plenty of chances to prove me wrong, as Chicago’s receivers aren't all that great.

Defense is where Chicago makes its money. Marcus Harrison, Craig Steltz and Zach Bowman all slid on draft day and will arrive in Chicago with a warm embrace. Harrison will fill the void left by Tank a couple of years ago and give Tommie Harris a high energy beast of a tag team partner on the interior of the line. Craig Steltz is a ball hawk safety who will start one day. He played on an elite secondary in college and brings that experience of winning to the windy city. Zach Bowman adds quality depth and caps a run of good contributors brought in by the Bears.

With all the success already, the Bears still managed a steal in wide receiver, Marcus Monk. Think James Hardy with untapped potential. He has great height and good athleticism. He has the chance to fine tune his craft and be a big producer in Chicago.
